Sue Harris: Walker Morris

I am a Director at Walker Morris LLP specialising in Commercial Litigation and with more than 20 years experience of dealing with disputes in areas such as construction, engineering, professional negligence, contractual and shareholder disputes, fraud and contentious probate. I have been involved in a number of high profile and high value cases and have extensive trial experience, acting for both claimants and defendants. I also run a number of cases using conditional and discounted fee agreements and litigation funding.

I have recently re-joined the Board of the Leeds Law Society having been the co-opted member of the Trainee Solicitors’ Group and the Young Solicitors’ Group back in the early 1990s.

My interest in rejoining is as a result of realising that the Leeds Law Society has changed and become much more relevant in representing the interests of all solicitors in Leeds – whether from a larger or smaller firm and whatever level of qualification.

The project that I am currently involved in relates to working with the Court Service and the District Judges in Leeds to improve the lines of communication between them and the practitioners. In the age of the Jackson Reforms there have been adjustments for everyone involved in litigation. To date we have had two successful ‘Meet the Judges’ events, we have worked with the judiciary on a Pre CCMC Order (which other Courts have now adopted), we have set up the Court Notice Board on the Leeds Law Society website (which includes FAQs and information from the Court Service). We are currently working on a local protocol and precedents in use at the Court in Leeds will be added to this part of the website in due course. It is hoped that a dedicated section for family law practitioners will also be made available.

Please watch this space for what I hope you will find useful information. If you do have any ideas for information we could add or other areas that we could look at that would help you in your dealings with the Leeds Court please contact me at

The other project of particular interest to me relates to an initiative to encourage the firms in Leeds to work together to keep Leeds firmly on the Legal map in its rightful position. The Board are actively discussing this. We are also looking at how solicitors can work with barristers, other professionals and agencies such as Leeds and Partners to achieve our common aims.
